In May 2020, the European Commission published the Guidance Note to be used by national authorities in conjunction with the Withdrawal Agreement. The Guidance Note will help make sure that the Citizens’ Rights chapter of the Withdrawal Agreement is implemented correctly across all the member states.
It's a hugely important document for us as it explains in detail how the WA will be applied to us and how our rights will be protected. But it's true to say that the 57 page Guidance Note is not the easiest of documents to follow, being full of often arcane cross references to directives and case law.
Never daunted, France Rights and British in Europe have gone where others fear to tread and have spent many hours delving into its entrails to put together three explainer articles that will tell you what you need to know. As with all our publications, the articles are fully legally checked by our legal team.
You'll find the three articles on the following pages:
The Guidance Note Part 1 - Residence rights and procedures;
The Guidance Note Part 2 - Family members, future family reunification and dual nationals;
The Guidance Note Part 3 - Social security, pensions and health care .
If you'd like to read the full Guidance Note yourself, you can find it here.
